BROWN COUNTY GENERAL HOSPITAL
MATERNITY UNIT
The Maternity staff at BCGH would like to invite you to call our unit to schedule a tour of our facility and pre register for your upcoming stay at BCGH. The following is some basic information about our unit and your stay with us.

Rooms- we have all LDRP rooms, which means you will remain in the same room throughout your stay. These rooms have new state of the art monitoring systems. The OB TraceVue system allows the physicians and nurses to monitor you and the baby as your labor progresses. This system allows us to monitor you from the nurse’s station and any room on the unit we are in. The physicians can even view this from their office or home.

Nursery- we have a level one nursery that provides 24 hour care from area pediatricians that can be on site for any problem that arise with in minutes. We also work in close coordination with Children’s Hospital Medical Center to provide quickly any needed care for ill infants.

Classes and Education-During your stay you will view video tapes on baby care, safety and Infant CPR.
We provide a one day Childbirth Preparedness class to help our parents through labor and delivery. The classes are for all parents even if you choose to have an epidural for your labor.
We have a certified lactation counselor that will provide individual counseling for breastfeeding moms.
Please call to schedule any these classes

Tests and Procedures-
· All patients will have a non stress test as soon as they are admitted. This test tells us how the baby is tolerating contractions and how far apart and how long your contractions are lasting.

· All patients will submit a urine specimen and have blood taken for a type and screen and CBC

· All patients will have an IV started

· Other procedures may occur depending on your requests for labor and delivery and your condition

Visiting Policy- during labor and delivery we try to accommodate the patient’s wishes as much as possible, but will limit visitors if we feel the patient needs some rest or other issues arise. Once the delivery is over we do follow the hospital guidelines and during flu season anyone under 14 is restricted. Siblings of the new baby may visit during the flu season if they have received a flu shot prior to mom’s admission. AT ALL TIMES ANYONE WITH ANY TYPE OF INFECTION LIKE A COUGH OR COLD ETC. WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO VISIT. Overnight accommodations for one person is available, all others are asked to visit between noon and 830pm. Siblings must be accompanied by an adult at all time, hospital rooms are not child proof and children should be supervised at all times,(The patient can not be this adult).

Birth Certificates and Paternal Affidavits
Birth Certificates are available at the Brown County Health Department about 2 months after delivery for a cost of $18.00.
Paternal Affidavits may be filled out here if the parents are not married and the father is not contesting paternity. This paper has to be notarized. Please let the nurses know if you need this done upon arrival so we can arrange for a notary to be here during your stay.

ADC/WIC
The nursery personnel will give you a paper that has all the information these two agencies require. You will be given a crib card and footprint sheet.
