Annual celebration draws a crowd
News Democrat Staff report
Brown County residents gathered in the Brown County General Hospital on Nov. 30 for the hospital's 12th annual Celebration of Lights event. The event involved a welcoming ceremony, performances by the Beebe Chapel Choir, and a group sing-along of Silent Night.
After the ceremony, the crowd gathered outside to watch Brown County General Hospital Auxiliary president Lois Holland light up 100 trees, thanks to the donations of various residents.
"We felt like the event went very well," Special Projects Coordinator Teri Baumann said. "The numbers (donations) were slightly down, but we had more people attending."
"The main purpose of the ceremony is to honor family and friends," Baumann said. "You could tell people really appreciated it just from the way they were decorating their trees before the ceremony."
Baumann also wanted to thank the people who donated their time to the event, including Southern Hills Career Center Carpentry Class, Brown County General Hospital food and nutrition staff and plant operations staff, Dan Baumann and Mike Kress for transporting the trees, the Beebe Chapel Choir, Brown County's Treasurer's Office, Georgetown and Western Brown FFA, Judy Huffman and Raydina Lillich, Miller's tree farm, Rev. James Settles and Dr. Todd Williams.
The money raised from the event will go into the Hospital Foundation Endowment to raise money for future hospital projects. Ornaments are still available for $5, and can be signed with the name of a friend or loved one. For more information, call Baumann at (937) 378-7712.
